Advice for a Mystery Illness? |
I have had strange health issues now for almost a year & none of the doctors I've been to see can pin down a diagnosis, despite extensive blood tests, x-rays & other tests. I have seen a PCP, a holistic MD & a MD of internal medicine, & an orthopedist. I have been tested for everything from RA to Lyme disease to TB to pinched nerves & every possible hypothesis has turned up negative so far. A lot of the symptoms are generalized--such as fatigue, chonic sinusitus, achy joints, chronic back and neck pain, stress & being slightly overweight. I went to see a doctor several years ago because of intermittent pain & numbness in my arms, from the elbow down to the hand. Over the years, it has increased in frequency & duration to the point that it happens daily and is severe. I also had a bout of internal eye inflammation recently & my ESR rate has been weird the 3 times it was tested. I've been told to wait to see what else goes wrong & then do more tests. Any suggestions on what to do? Your symptoms sound like Fibromyalgia. Visit a doctor of rheumatology and ask to be checked for Fibromyalgia. There is no medical test for this condition, it is diagnosed by trigger points. Stop worrying too much, because that will increase your sickness, take more fruits, drink more water, go for healthy food, more vegetables better, sleep well.. I'm by no means a doctor, but I was watching Medical Incredible on tv one day and there was a story about this guy with a myserious illness. They couldn't figure out what it was, but I remember he started having eye complications. Inflammation of the eye or something. Eventually they found out it was some disease. Don't remember the name. But the guy just needed to take some medication and he was cured. you may want to try a rheumatologist. they can check you for autoimmune diseases like lupus. an elevated esr or sed rate shows you do have inflammation. your symptoms do sound like lupus, or sle, which i have a slight case. goodluck and dont worry ;)michele ps- i know it stinks to have to keep going to mds but i think this is a good fit-a rheumatologist |
