I caused my Lupus?

A woman I know that had Lupus ten years ago said she mentally made her white blood cells fight her Lupus and that's how she went into remission. She had Lupus for just over two years. Now she gets an occasional mouth sore and achy joints.

This woman said I caused my Lupus and that all Lupus is the same just in different degrees of how it affects you. I have Lupus nephritis (of the kidneys) and when not on medication I have antibodies detected via blood tests (Complement 3 and 4) that are attacking my kidneys. Without medication I would die. I have the typical really bad joint pain to the point of not being able to walk at night or move my hands. I have sharp kidney pains that stab me once in a while and really scare me. I am doing all right though.

Did I cause my Lupus? Did I make this happen? This woman says I did. She is crazy?

Dude, she's crazy. I wouldn't even talk to her, unless you do so to be amused. No need for that kind of hysterical negativity in your life.

i have lupus, and my mom is a yoga teacher, so she tells me the whole "positive thinking will change your problem" crap.
well, i've tried, it dosent work that well, somethings, you just can't cure, no matter how positive your thinking is! Report It

I have had Lupus for 5 years, some days are great and other days I need to take so many pain-killers that would kill a normal person just to be able to function...I know how you are feeling Report It

You even have to ask? Of course she's crazy. Nobody knows what exactly causes auto-immune disease in general, or any one case of auto-immune disease. But it certainly wasn't you.

I wouldn't say she was crazy but she is misinformed. There are several forms of Lupus. You should talk with your rheumatologist about this. My daughter has the erythematosus form of lupus where there is a rash on the face in the form of a butterfly, fever, arthritis, renal and lung and heart involvement. She has to take steroids when she has a flare up but, she has a quality life and lives accordingly. Without her many medications she would die and I am sure she gets scared at times. I know I do. Check out your local arthritis society. Go to the internet. Type in Lupus and you will get all kinds of information about your disease. It might not be curable but with treatment you can live a quality life. You did not cause your Lupus the feeling is it is genetic and if you check back in your family history you might discover family members who had Rheumatoid Arthritis, Scleroderma or some other type of skin and joint problems.

No you did not cause your own Lupus. Her Lupus is probably in remission, but that does not mean she will not have a flare have symptoms return. Please have an anticariolipid test and A LA( Lupus anticoagulant) Test You need to be on warfarin.or if intolerant to that, low monocular weight herprin injections. Antiphosholipid Syndrome is a leading cause of organ failure in Lupus patients. See this site for further information please.http://www.hughes-syndrome.org/index.htm

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) can affect any part of the body, including the brain.

Psychological symptoms can be caused by lupus, or can also be induced through medication. Prednisone is a common treatment, and strong doses can cause side effects like psychological problems.

Flare-ups and remission cycles are part of the disease. It's not always clear what causes them, although common triggers such as stress and sunlight are well-known.

The cause of lupus is unknown. There are some genetic markers being researched, but environmental factors could also be the cause. There is still much to learn about autoimmune diseases.

I have had a bad flare-up that did include mental problems. It's hard to tell if it was the flare-up or the strong dose of intravenous prednisolone (similar to prednisone) that caused my symptoms, but let me tell you, I believed a lot of crazy stuff at that time, with some auditory hallucinations. I recall that period of time with great discomfort.
