What is Secondary neoplasm?

What is Secondary neoplasm?

A secondary neoplasm is an appearance of cancer, but not the primary cancer. So, for instance, someone who has breast cancer, is told 3 months later that the cancer has spread to the liver. The breast is the primary location, and the liver is the secondary.
Similarly, it can be said that the liver cancer is a secondary neoplasm, although it did not spread from the breast. It is just another appearance of cancer in the body.

Hope this helped

Secondary neoplasm refers to any of a class of cancerous tumors that are either metastatic offshoots of a primary tumor, or apparently unrelated tumors that increase in frequency following certain cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

When you get cancer in your lung and it spreads to your liver, the liver tumor is considered the 2ndary neoplasm. Basically, secondary means metastatic disease which has spread from the original site to another spot in your body.

A secondary neoplasm is usually a cancerous tumour that has metastasized (has spread ) from a primary tumor
