Urinalysis came back...what does this mean?

Please be nice, because I've been very worried about this. I had a UA C&S done Sept 16th. I had been experiencing classic kidney disease sx's.

The results read: Rare group of urothelial cells present; cannot exclude instrumentation, lithiasis, inflammation, and/or low grade transitional cell neoplasm.

The part that stumps me is the INSTRUMENTATION. I peed in a cup for crying out loud! And since when does a microscope make someone look like they have cancer? I don't get it.

For the 1st poster: BECAUSE NO ONE TOLD ME OF THE RESULTS! I found out by getting a copy of my medical records!

Urothelial cells are epithelial cells specialized for the urinary tract. Possible causes for it being excreted are instrumentation like insertion of a catheter, lithiasis or rough stones in the urinary tract that scraped the epithelium, infection or neoplasm. They are only enumerating the possible causes. If there are cancerous cells that were washed away by the urine and into your cup, after settling down, it can be seen under the microscope.Hope it helped.

WHY DIDN'T YOU ASK THE DOCTOR WHEN YOU GOT YOUR RESULTS

They can tell by the cells that are in your urine. Good luck.

best thing to do is talk to your doctor as he/she will be able to explain all this to you

Actually in all honesty. The "instrumentation" is a statement that laboratories state when they feel that not you but the tech or nurse that put the urine in the lab tubes may have handled it enough to actually cause a variation in the results so they can't rule out the possibility of instrumentation contributing to their findings. You need to request that the test is repeated and the fact that that's annotated it shouldn't be another charge.~

ask the Doctor........,not yahoo!

OK, calm down, find a nice interesting movie on TV and forget about this until you see the new Doctor.
Lithiasis means, possible wrong Diagnosis. So wait until you see this other Doctor. Your fears may be all in vain.
