Is it possible for a MRI to not pick up a neck injury? I have a constant stiff neck and sharp radiating pain.? |
I have a constant ache and stiffness and sharp radiating pain when I rotate my neck a certain way. Im in the army and I received both an X-Ray and a MRI. Both yielded normal results. Is it possible that they could have missed something? They are trying to release me from Active Duty and keep telling me that I have no injury because of the One MRI I took. Xray and MRI both are used to diagnose soft tissue and boney growths in the spine and and neck. A CT scan may see some things, but a combination of tools would be used to diagnose. If nothing showed on the MRI, I would believe your symptoms are muscular, soft tissue injury, as opposed to herniated/bulging disc, or diseases directly effecting the spinal column. You may have a disc that is wearing thin, making the nerve irritated, that passes through the area. Ibuprofen can be used for pain and inflammation. I doubt they missed something, if you are wanting a CT scan to ease your mind, request the test be done. For now, I would use heating pads, or rice socks to ease the muscles, and Ibuprofen. Good luck. sure can yep ................mri does', signal it................what you need is an x -ray............than they can see ,if the is any damage on yer spine. a CT scan visualizes bone structures better than an MRI. Perhaps that's worth a try. Tube MRI scans have a high fail rate finding spine pathology but upright mri spine scans do better.
