How do I fight depression from a neck injury?

I'm trying to deal with depression resulting from a herniated disc that I had happen in my neck recently. I've had to take a lot of medications, injections in my neck, etc. and I keep getting told that these will only help temporarily, and that I will need surgery. I'm terrified of the thought of it. I could use some good advise on how to deal with a situtation like this? I've been told to find things I like to do, but I can't even get my mind to work that way right now. How can I overcome this?

My advice is go back to the doctor. Have you ever heard of praying. Prayer works if you believe. My prayers are with you.

With some of the people I have worked with having similiar problems, their doctors have prescribed them Symbalta, which supposedly helps with the depression and pain experienced by those with injuries or physical illness. I have seen some of my clients improve and others not. Have you tried antidepressants? Their benefits can last a long time and make your life somewhat more bearable to live with. Also, you might find great relief from pain management clinics that consist of a team of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and counselors - all work as a team to help you learn how to cope more effectively with pain, as well as provide pain relief ideas.

Tell a doctor you think you're depressed. I work for a mental health agency, and I notice that a lot of people with spinal cord injuries have depression too.
