How can I get cheap medicine to treat my OCD?

I suppose I have always been OCD, but I remember the very moment that triggered it over six years ago, sending me into a nearly constant fear of "unclenliness" I am so sick and tired of being afraid to scratch my neck because my hand is "dirty". I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. This disorder is controlling my life. I want to be normal again.

So I guess my question is (fellow OCD sufferers and psychologists only, please) which drug, prescription or non, is best to calm me down?

By the way, I am poor, I admit it and it's not going to change anytime soon (so I can't afford $275 for a 30 day supply of pills, just so ya know)

I would suggest digging deeper into your subconscious mind. Ask yourself these questions..... What is it you are afraid of? What has triggered this from the past? What constant thought am I thinking? Are you afraid of disease? Do you want to be perfect? Are you afraid of germs? If so, you HAVE to ACCEPT the fact that you will NEVER be free from germs, disease, and you will never be perfect!!!!! I really don't think people need meds for this. They just need to accept that we live in this crazy world where people's expectations of others are so high, and we feel that we will get sick if we touch this or that. Well, I believe that when a person uses these antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers, they are actually breaking DOWN their immune system because one is not allowing the body to fight them off, then when you do get a piece of germ, one ends up sick!!! Why do you think SO many children are so sick these day? Because parents think it is the right thing to do to immediately give antibiotics when their child shows systems of anything... Therefore, the child's body never fully defends the infection off his or her self. This breaks the immune system down. I could go on and on. I hope I've helped!!

Just wanted to let you know that any doctor would need to look at your medical history before recommending a drug for you to take. I wish you luck though, my brother has OCD something terrible. I know it can be very debilitating. *Hugs*

You've almost answered the question yourself. You know the event that triggered it and medication isn't going to change that event. An effective therapist who can assist you to clear the root cause issues (not just talk about it) would be your best option. If you can't afford that then you could learn how to use ZPoint or EFT. These processes are gentle, effective and give lasting results. You can do a Yahoo search and find free info in the web.

I am a psychotherapist.

We'd need a more detailed history to confirm the diagnosis first
Then details of age, sex, other diseases to finally come to a drug which 'suits' you. even that drug may not suit you and doses have to be titrated as per each individual.
SO treatment by proxy on Yahoo Answers is not really fesible.

About Cheap drugs: Seems you are in USA. So there the drugs are unduly expensive (patents etc). Try to catch hold of a friend in a third world country (best bet is India) and get him to send you the medicines which would be like 0.5US$/day
Find loopholes in rules for the best way you can do this legally.

Actually, if you qualify based on your income, many drug manufacturers have what they call "Indigent Drug Programs" where they will provide a discount on medication for those who cannot afford it... So, if you know what medications your doctor suggests, try to go online or call up the pharmaceutical companies that manufactuer them and see what they can do.. Also, generic versions of brand-name drugs are less expensive.

I take luvox for my OCD symptoms.

I have taken paxil and zoloft before and luvox has been the best of them all. I would have a look on crazymeds.org. and go through the list of SSRI antidepressants to find out which ones have been FDA approved for OCD and then find out how much each of them cost.

I am not sure what you guys have in the US, but in Australia, you can get generic brands and I pay only about $30 / month for my antidepressants.

Good luck in finding a treatment.
