I'm going crazy and in the process failing alll my classes.... should I try and explain it to the prof?

I suffer from depression and anxiety and will find out tomorrow if I am bipolar II or not. I haven't taken anything for them in years but instead chose to suffer in silence and then move away and start fresh somewhere else. I came back here to finish my degree and everything has fallen apart. My life has spun out of control and I want it to stop.

I know I am smart enough to do this and when I get something down on paper it is pretty good. My problem is that I have CSP.... I pick at my skin on my upper abdomen until my fingers are sore and caked with blood every time I have something to do or somewhere to be. I will sit down to write a paper and instead pick at my skin until my neck and arms get too sore from hunching and digging. As a result I am so far behind in school and I can't focus or concentrate. I have papers due weeks ago that just need a bibliography. The paper is done... I can't force myself to do anything and I'm scared. Should I tell my professors about the disorder?

I just feel like they have heard it all and this crap is tough enough without another critic. I could barely tell my Dr. or my mom. I am really at a loss here but my mind hasn't improved yet... I'm taking Ativan and Effexor XR but I'm still picking. I really want to stop. I know I'm doing it but I can't control it... it's like I go into a trance or something and the next thing I know I've been picking for 4 hours and I'm late for class or work. I just got fired from my job yesterday because of it and I can't flunk out of school, this is my last shot at this.

yes tell him, teachers are there to help. nothing comes before your health, so please talk to your doctor, your family, you can't do this by yourself. i know you must be scared and you don't feel as if you are in control of your life at the moment, but you can change that. but you need to tell people who can help you. don't try to go through this alone. stay strong, you have a wonderful life a head of you, lots of wonderful things to experience.think about that, stay strong and tell someone you need some help, there is no shame in asking for help, we all need help sometimes, you can do it, you can do anything.good luck sweetie.

Wow. I don't think anyone was overly critical of you. I think every one of these answers was honest and sensitive. . . just because you don't like the frank advice, doesn't mean it's bad advice. Report It

Well i think you should talk to a psychologist first before you talk to your professor.
i'm not expert on this but i feel.. seriously... you need help or at least someone to talk.

it's good to hear that you chose to finish your degree but you have to solve your problem first (the deppresion, anxiety n CSP thing) before continuing your live.

About your prof, yeah.. you should tell him/her. Maybe she/he will help you...
But try not to freak him/her out or make her/him feels sympathy to you.

You are brave and smart girl, i wish you luck.
That's all i can say.

Cheers

You do not talk to your professor about this. You go to counseling services at your college and speak to somebody. They will tell you if it is appropriate to ask your teachers for extra time. They may even help you do it.
Good luck, and feel better. Once you get on medication, you might start to feel better.

just tell the professor about it and make h or her promise not to tell any one. I'm sad about my mom dieing and that's was in grade 3 my grades have been the same and going down every now and again.
