Should I consider LASIK to eliminate nearsightedness? |
I am 18 years old and I suffer from myopia (nearsightedness) -5.5 for the left eye, -6 for the right eye and I have astigmatism too. My eyesight has not worsen for 2 years and I have not changed the prescription of my glasses since then. Your eyesight has been stable for 2 years, which is one of the requirements for surgery, but there are other requirements as well, such as corneal thickness. I'm one of the few who can't get LASIK due to my cornea being too thin. Of course, my eyesight hasn't been stable for 2 years yet either! yes, but do just see just one doctor. i hear horor stories, get at least a second opiun. lasik is not for everyone. if ur pupil is not big enough you cant/should not get it done I certainly would, if I could afford it. my father got lasik...it definitely helped, but he still has to wear glasses...so there's no guarantee... I would be very careful about this. Research your Dr. thoroughly.!!!!!!!! My dad had perfect vision except for a little nearsightedness. He was delighted for a very short period of time. Within a few months he began to have trouble with his eyes. I thought right away something had gone wrong. Well my instincts were right. He is now nearly blind!!! There is no way to prove this had anything to do with it but statements made after the surgery concerned me. Consider it, certainly. I had lasik 2years ago had far sightedness and near at they are super now,go to the best eye doctor in your town they will check your eyes ,about 1hour deal if it can be done they will let you know. from there make sure they are no fee.see also if the doctor will fit you with temp glasses, that they have there to let you know what the outcome will be.I did it was a little strange ,but i,m glad he put them on me ,and then asked me if i thought i could get used to them, i say ed yes then he schedule me for lasik.could see 1000 times better.make sure lasik machine is always updated. and my doctor will do a tune up later about 1/16 of price cause when you get older your eyes will change and probably will have them done again it takes about 15 minutes, wish i had this done 10 years ago beats wearing two set of glasses and i can,t never find them.good luck..it cost about 4,ooo dollars but don,t think about price you only have one set of eyes.you also can go see someone having it done. I had LASIK done 3 weeks ago so I can't talk about long term effects, but short term I can definately tell you I love it. My prescription was stable for two years and my cornea was more than the right thickness to have it done. I would surely go see a doctor and you may want to see more than one. I felt very comfortable with the one I had because I knew 2 or 3 people that had it done by him and loved it. The best thing to do would be to ask the doctor for references or ask around and see if someone may have had it done by that doctor. Consultations are usually free, so why not take a shot at finding out if you are candidate for LASIK or not. It was the best money I ever spent to have 20/10 vision. There of course are risks with LASIK because it is surgery, but just getting out of bed in the morning there are many risks that we encounter with far worse consiquences than having LASIK. The best part is being able to get out of bed and not trip over anything because you can't see it because you haven't put your glasses on or contacts in. Hope this helps!! Your eyes will eventually get blurry again anyways when u turn 40 years old u might need glasses to read again it doesnt last forever but when ur eyes get blurry again u wont be as blurry as u are right now |
