Can you have astigmatism without having vision problems (nearsightedness / farsightedness)?

I have really bad astigmatism, and it's worsened 70% in one year. I'm also farsighted. The doctor fitted me with SO many different pairs of contacts for astigmatism, and they were all painful and didn't fit properly. (He said it was because my eyes were different?) Right now, I wear Acuvue soft contacts, so I'm wondering if I can get glasses to go over the contacts (just to wear in school, not all the time)? Personally, I don't think my astigmatism is horrible, because I can still see (with Acuvue contacts), but the doctor thinks I should do something about it.

if you can live without the astgmatism correction , do it

I have a slight astigmatism without being farsighted or nearsighted in my left eye. I have glasses for driving and watching TV and I only need them when I'm really tired. I dont' see why you couldn't wear contacts then have a pair of glasses that just corrects your astigmatism. You may just need them for driving/reading/watching TV . . . whatever. Bring this up with your doc, it may be your solution!
Good luck!

Astigmatism *is* only a specialised version of long or short sight.

If toric (astigmatic) lenses are not comfortable, or do not stabilise, and you get good enough vision for general purposes with "best sphere" contacts, spectacles "over the top" with the missing astigmatic component for demanding purposes, or when you're tired, is a perfectly valid option.

And no, provided you're within the minimum limit for driving, (if you drive), medically you don't *have* to do anything about it.
Whatever suits you is right for you.
