Can you help me understand a concept of nearsightedness and farsightedness?

I know about these conditions and why people have them, but I was wondering: Do people who are nearsighted see near things BETTER than people with 20/20? And likewise, do farsighted people see far things BETTER than people with 20/20?

No they don't. 20/20 refers to your near and far sight accuracy. If your are nearsighted, then your distance vision suffers and one of the numbers changes. If you are farsighted, then your close vision suffers and the other number changes. If you have 20/20 then you can see both near and far objects with "ideal" accuracy. You can have vision that is better than 20/20 and one of the numbers will go up to indicate that you can see objects clearly at a further distance. People who are near or farsighted have worse vision than those with 20/20.

I can't answer for farsighted, but I am nearsighted and do not see near things better than people with 20/20 vision. Even the near things are just a little bit blurry.

I actually have a basis for comparison, because I was very nearsighted, then had LASIK surgery. I had 20/20 vision for 3 years and then got nearsighted again, although not as bad as before.
