Could I have glaucoma?

I wear contacts to correct my nearsightedness and I noticed my eyes have become quite teary lately. Every morning when I wake up one of my eyes or both are teary.
I don`t feel any pain in the eyes and there`s no redness.
I have been wearing contacts for 5 years, but I have never noticed this before.
Could this be a symptom of glaucoma. I am 20. My grandmother has glaucoma and I don`t know about others in my family.
Thank you

It's probably something as simple as a change in the moisture levels of your tear ducts due dry eyes or allergies. The glaucoma patients we get at our office usually complain of pain (but not always) and usually it's high intraocular pressure due to a recent surgery so most of the time, the patients themselves do not know they have it. And there is definitely a hereditary component but you are very young. Go to an opthalmologist or optometrist. It's a very simple test using a tonopen to check for this, average pressure of the optic nerve should fall between 10-20. Good luck.

I'd get it checked out ASAP. Your body is trying to tell you something. I used to wear contacts but I don't anymore, the contacts irritated my eyes and now I have a permanent vein in my left eye white from them. I was stubborn and wanted to wear them, but should have quit while I was ahead.

20 sounds young for glaucoma, but I'm not doctor. Don't fool around with your eyes -- they are precious.

Glaucoma causes almost no symptoms in most people. It does not cause watering or tearing of the eyes.

More likely it is allergy or low humidity levels in the house.

Glaucoma doesn't really have any symptoms. I have Glaucoma myself and have had it since i was born, i have the very worst case of it were i am partially blind in one eye but that was only because my mom and dad didn't notice it early enough. The best thing you can do is get your eyes checked over.

I have glaucoma. There are no symptoms. An optician or an optometrist can detect it, but an ophthalmologist can detect, diagnose and treat it. Left undiagosed, or worse untreated, this disease eventually leads to blindness.

It is unlikely that you have glaucoma at 20, but since your grandmother has it, it is possible that you may also have it one day. It is a hereditary disease, so if your mother or your father (whovever is your grandmother's child) has been diagoised with it, it is very probable that you will have it. Have your eyes checked because th eearlier the diagnosis is made the earlier treatment can begin to prevent your going blind.

Wearing glasses or contact lenses does not cause glaucoma. Redness and teary eyes is not a sign, either. If you wear contacts, your eyes may be irritated from them or becasue they were not well cleaned. Teariness and redness are likely causes the the environment: too much dust or pollen, smoke, an infection. Check it out to be in the safe side.
