Is pinhole glasses really work ??

i came across an advertisement about the pinhole glasses.

from the advertisement, they claim that pinhole glasses (without my prescription lenses) can help me to focus farther away, leave my eyes relaxed, " teach your eyes to focus again" , no strain or headaches caused by over-powered glasses especially when performing near work such as reading, computer or writing, less dependent on eye-crutches, and It even helps to develop good vision habits 鈥?relaxed central vision.

i wonder, will it really help me to improve my Myopia (Nearsightedness)?
is there any side-effect if i wear pinhole glasses?

do you imagine to walk around with two pieces of plastic instead of glasses lenses that have two minute holes to see through ?! seriously ?

I don't think I would use them. However, they will work for nearsightedness or astigmatism. Just poke a pin hole in a piece of paper and look through it. It actually works very well, but I would be afraid that while the glasses might do what they claim, they would be causing some other kind of damage to the eyes.

no, it definitely will not improve your myopia.

but it also wont damage" you to wear them. they cause no harm.

they work on the "pinhole effect" principle, where paraxial rays are eliminated (along with peripheral vision!). the short version is that it makes everyone have better acuity at all distances when they have them on. nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia, astigmatism...all refractive conditions have better acuity with pinholes. but you lose *ALL* peripheral vision at the same time, so its not very practical.

and it does not ever "teach you to focus" or change your refractive state in any way, neither good nor bad.

its a gimmick.
