Why do I cough up blood?

Im 14 and i've been coughing up blood for a year now. It started in october last year and there would be big dark chunks of blood in my sputum. Then it sort of went away in the summer, but it would still happen every now and then. Now it's starting again. I've been to the doctor and he ruled out cystic fibrosis and said it was probably a post nasal drip or something. I had cancer when I was younger, should i be worried?? And what should I do about it? I can't stand the taste of blood in my mouth all the time. Thanks.

Turn off the computer, get your parents and all of you go to the doctor NOW. Don't come home until you get a proper answer.

"Post nasal drip" indeed! Whoever gave you that line should be fired immediately.

It may be nothing more than a recurring upper-respiratory infection, but with your medical history you should take no chances. Good luck.

Well, i usually get the taste of blood and maybe a little blood here and there during winter as well. In the summer, i'm fine though. It's most likely because of the cold especially when I run. I don't think you should be worried about it because its not constant since you said it doesnt happen during summer. You should still have regular check ups though.

only a doctor can tell you what to do about it or if it is related to cancer. If one doctor says its just Post nasal drip, a second opinion wouldnt hurt.

Seems to me your doctor should be doing more, especially given your medical history. Are you parents aware of how bad this problem is? Don't ignore this; insist on seeing a doctor and having some tests. You should not have to put up with something like this, and it could possibly be a sign of something serious. Good luck--you are too young to have to face such problems. I'm sure your parents will want to help you find a solution.

is the blood you spit out taste fresh? Tuberculosis is very common and it may be it... better go to a decent doctor often...good luck

go to the emergency room i knew some one who had lung cancer and that was one of her sympmtoms. better to be safe then to wait.

Tell your mom to get a second opinion. It's not normal for anybody to cough up blood. Something has to be wrong. Don't put it off.

GO TO THE ER ASAP you stated you had cancer when you were younger, god forbid, maybe its returning. have your self checked out,its better to be safe than sorry.

Your doctor does not seem very competent.
Your parents need to push for a proper diagnosis
which will probably mean being checked at hospital and being x-rayed.
