Why do I cough up blood?????

Im 14 and i've been coughing up blood for a year now. It started in october last year and there would be big dark chunks of blood in my sputum. Then it sort of went away in the summer, but it would still happen every now and then. Now it's starting again. I've been to the doctor and he ruled out cystic fibrosis and said it was probably a post nasal drip or something. I had cancer when I was younger, should i be worried?? And what should I do about it? I can't stand the taste of blood in my mouth all the time. Thanks.

I would urge your doctor to take another look. It could be a recurance of the cancer (But lets hope not!).

I am more than twice your age and never in my life have coughed up blood other than one time sniffing in some blood from a bloody nose on accident.

If your doctor cannot get a diagnosis to you, I would recommend going to another one. You and your family need to get to the bottom of whats happening.

Have you ever been tested for pulmonary ulcers? Sometimes, heavy coughing can lead to tears in the lining of the bronchial tubes, which become like stomach ulcers. If you had cancer, it could be a recurrence of some issues you had before. If your doctor can't find anything, get a second and third opinion. It is not normal to consistently cough up blood. There is something not right inside.
