Sinus Xrays?? Deviated Septum? Polyps? Chance of tumors? |
I've been having sinus problems for a month now. My doctor finally sent me for xrays on my sinuses. The technician told me this morning that my dr would have the results within 24 to 48 hours. My dr's office said it normally takes 7 - 10 days unless they found something abnormal. Better go for 2nd opinion of an ENT surgeon. Sinus operations reoccur. It seems mucous membrane inflamation, & can be CONTROLLED by nasal sprays. Please don't worry.I have the same problem as you and have a deviated septum. The risks of cancer are very very low. Don't worry. It is very unlikely you have cancer. There are several seperate issues involved it seems. 1 Deviated Nasal Septum. The septum, which is the thing inside your nose that seperates your nose "holes" and it can be deviated and cause no problems for some folks where with others it can cause breathing issues and for some it can actually be so far to one side that the airway is totally obstructed. This is very common, 60% of us have DNS (deviated nasal septum). It can happen from being bumped in the nose, falling on the nose or even from coming down through the birth canal while you are being born. It should be fixed by a specialist if it causes breathing obstruction or it is causes sinus infections due to blocking the sinus openings. 2 Polyps. Polyps are mucus filled sacs in the nose and sinuses that form in response to allergy. Once your dad had his nose surgery that opened his airway he had more air coming in the nose so more antigens (things you breathe that you are allergic to) could get in his nose and cause an allergic response and form more polyps. He needs to have his allergies worked up and possibly go on allergy shots for preventive measures. Also salt water nose washes would help. 3 sinus pain in face usually indicates the septum has a deviated area blocking the sinus natural out flow tract and you have either swelling and pressure in these areas from infection or allergy. If your dad has allergies you have a 50% chance of inheridence. You should definitely get a new CT scan NOT MRI and take the new one and old one to an ENT to compare where you were and where you are now on the CT. Don't be worried just be smart in choosing someone who treats the whole patient and not just some surgeon who wants to operate and address the underly cause. (allergy) |
