How do I talk to my doctor to get enough narcotics prescribed for pain without being labeled drug seeking?? |
The VA has become very 鈥渘arcotic phobic鈥?in the last few years, making getting the drugs I need to function very difficult to get. What I need help with is, how do I converse with my doctor in order to be prescribed enough narcotics to help me get through the month relatively pain free, and get out of bed and on with my life, I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired it is not even funny, I just want to get enough pills to take the pain away, get out of bed and interact with my kids, as it is, right now I am spending 15-20 days a month in bed. Sorry to get so long winded here, I can fill you in on more details if you wish. I have tried to talk to my Doc exactly as I am doing here, but it falls on deaf ears. Also I am allergic to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) so just taking some motrin or advil to help with minor pain does not work for me. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time. Thanks you, I am trying to see another doc, but it is hard to do in the VA system. Not only do they have issues about prescribing narcotics for fear of creating addiction, they also have a problem giving out expensive medications, giving out cheap stuff that provides little to no relieve instead of the costlier meds that would solve the problem. It really bothers me that after all we sacrificed for our country, to have our health care be lousy and ineffective. There is no medicine for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic. It is a doctor's responsibility to relieve your pain, not let it be, or cause it. If you choose your doctor yourself (as we do in Canada), make sure you choose a compassionate doctor. You shouldn't have to suffer needlessly. Most doctors care, and will give you what you need. Mind you, don't use the medicine unless you absolutely must, because you can become immune to the effects through habituation. Good luck! P.S. My dad used to go to different doctors, to get several prescriptions for the same drug, but I DON'T recommend this! |
