How do you go offperscription drugs/narcotics for pain management going off? |
I am on too very heavy narcotics and would like to think about going off these Ms contin 30 mg and Static 5mg. I have been taking this for 5 years for chronic back pain. I am also on topmax 3oo mg a day. I am thinking I would like to go off that too. But one step at a time. I would not attempt to do it without the supervision of a doctor. No its going on... If you want to get off narcotics after taking them for such a long time, you need to consult with your physician. It will take a long time and a lot of dosage adjustments. Do not do this on your own, you need to be monitored, the withdrawal from narcotics can be fatal if not done correctly. Have you thought of yoga to help you with your spine? Spinal conditioning plays a major role in your overall health as you know all too well and yoga is great for keeping your spine healthy. Frist talk to your doctor about even doing so you may find it is not a good idea . but if you want ottry it you need to taper off them very slowly at lower dose over time . you can suffer from withdrawl it is unpleasnt at oworst and can in some case casiue serious effects . it will be very hard to do with out your dr's supervision. I also take 30 mg ms contin. I take then twice daily for chronic pain. My suggestion is to maybe taper down to a less potent narcotic. This would prevent any major withdrawel symptoms and would also help control whatever pain the ms contin was prescribed for. Maybe try a drug with either hydrocodone or oxycodone. These are both very effective opiate pain killers but are not nearly as strong as the ms contin, I also would continue on the non-narcotic drugs as they will probably help with keeping you out of pain. However if you are dead set on not taking anything, you need to figure out a way with your doctor to wean you off the narcotics. If you go off of them ''cold turkey'', you will have horrible withdrawel symptoms. Also you would need to talk to your doc about managing your pain in a non-medication way, like phyisical therapy or massage. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide. Slowly and under the supervision of a Dr. |
