NA (Narcotics Anonymous) Meetings, Good Idea Or Bad?

Some people say they can help you and support you to get off drugs and it is a really good idea to go if you're struggling...

Others say NA meetings are just a place where drug addicts meet other drug addicts and it wont help at all...

What do you think?

those type of meetings gives you someone to talk to If you feel like you are going to slip and go back to using you will have someone to talk to. Remember this. nothing will do you any good untill you are really ready to make a change. Some times you just cant talk to family or friends about your problem the narcotics anonymous will give you someone who wont judge you. I think you should give it a try if you are ready for a change. Recovery is only as good as you make it, but you really have to want to change and get off drugs. I am in recovery myself, and I have found out that when you are in recovery, you are going to be exposed to all kinds of people at all different levels. What do you have to lose? You have everything to gain by being around others who know that they have a problem and want to stop using drugs. Its better than being around people who still use regularly and have no idea they have a problem. Go to a meeting.

I've recovered from meth and crack and the only way I could do it after trying many times was to get away from anybody that reminds you of getting high. A group of people trying to recover wind up talking about how they used to get high and wind up fiending and eventually they make some new contacts.

First of all, true recovery isn't quitting and getting away from other users. It is working through the twelve steps and being active in recovery. I cannot express to you the importance of getting into a N.A or A.A. group. go and go until you find the one that you are comfortable in. I am a recovering heroin addict. Meetings, sponsor and the twelve steps have given me freedom and inner peace that I have never experienced before. Our problem is our heads. The anxiety or depression, or th feeling of hopelessness, or not being good enough , or coping skills. Drugs became my solution. And it works for awhile. but the problem still exists. These programs will clean out the crap and make room for love and inner peace and serenity. You must attend with an open mind. After all we were open minded about trying drugs. It is all up to what you are willing to put into it. Be Honest with the group and especially with yourself. Be openminded, and be Willing. H.O.W. Leave any prid and ego at the door. And focus on all of your similarities with thepeakers in the group. Don't be like me and focus on the differences. This is key. I almost suffered from terminal uniqueness.
