I was given narcotics following a rotator cuff surgery.I've had HIVES, ever since. Has anything like this ever

happened to you? How did your doctor treat the condition?
The surgery was Oct. 2005...I am presently on Doxipin 10mg and Allegra 180mg.

If you are no longer taking the medication, then it is not an allergic reaction. No one has an allergic reaction that lasts for 14 months. If you have had "hives" since that time then you need to be seen by either an allergy/immunologist or a dermatologist. A dermatologist could perform a biopsy to determine the cause of your symptoms. Rashes that persist for this long really do need some expert evaluation. Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant that is sometimes used to treat chronic pain. Allegra is an antihistamine used to treat allergies. If you were started on these meds after the initial reaction occurred then they are not the cause. There are a number of other causes of hives (if that is truly the condition you have). If you have the means, I highly suggest seeing a physician.

I am also going to see an allergist. The thing is, my doctor knows I have gained lots of wt , while on Doxipin...I hope this new plan attacks the Hives, not the reaction to Doxipin. This is not life threatening....just life "dampening"!!!!! Report It

DO NOT TAKE THE NARCOTIC MEDICATION AGAIN!!!
This is an allergic reaction.

If you have not talked to your doctor, call him/her asap.

Sometimes epinephrine, antihistimines(prescription), and in severe cases steroids may be needed.

Run, don't walk to the phone. (Allergies can worsen with repeated exposure)

I'm a nurse. You are allergic stop taking the medicine. This can be life threatening. Didn't they inform you of this? If not why not? Make sure you are never given this medication again, because every time you get it the rxn (reaction get worse). Make sure that it is recorded on your record as allergic to. This is a deadly thing you speak of.

an allergic reaction!!! may not do all time, but call and let Dr. know

Yes I've had a reaction to medication like that before. Your doctor needs to take you off that medication and change your medicine. You are just having an allergic reaction but hives could be dangerous.....
