Is adderall more for ADD or Narcolepsy?

Hey ya'll.

I read on the net that Adderall treats both ADD and Narcolepsy. But it is it used more widely to treat one or the other? What if you have both ADD, Narcolepsy, and depression? Does it help with depression at all?

Thank you!

wow thanks a lot kaity! its not that I "want" it, its just that my doctor said he was going to start me on something soon. He said that I have add, narcolepsy, and depression.. and i saw that it treats 2 of the 3. I just dont want to take a million different kind of drugs

Ritalin and Adderall are to treat both. Ritalin seemed to lift my mood some which was a desirable secondary effect.

Adderall is made up of Dexedrine salts and Dexedrine made me grumpy (only took me a month to figure that out) so Adderall kind of does the opposite with my mood that Ritalin does but not a whole bunch.

More for ADD, off label for narcolepsy.

Strattera is a non-amphetamine for ADD and helps depression too.

Provigil is used for narcolepsy. It lets you sleep better than Adderal does.

Adderall is used to treat both I think equally. The effects are definitely very different though when dealing with ADD and Narcolepsy. To someone with ADD it helps calm them down so they can focus....to someone with Narcolepsy it does just the opposite, it make them alert and able to focus and increases the chances for them to be able to stay awake.

Adderal is more used for ADD & ADHD than Narcolepsy. It can also be used for depression when SSRI's do not work before they try MAOI's or you also have ADD or ADHD. However Adderal is never used for serious depression because it does not work to treat your depression it is more likely to get you high... like feel happy high and you will probably have a crash and get really depressed. It also rarely works... there is often more of a chance it will make your depression worse than better.

It can also make anxiety worse along with Manic Depressive Bi-polarity.

As far as Narcolepsy it is usually not a first choice as far as said affects go, and the way it works. It is usually a more drastic second step. Sometimes it is used if you have both ADD/ADHD and Narcolepsy. Adderal often does not treat any problems, just 'makes' you better... so often if you were too stop using it you would probably go right back to where you were before possibly even withdrawls or getting worse.

It's easy to gain addiction to... I currently take Adderal it works great for me. I have gone through many other medications that did nothing or made everything worse, it helps my ADHD, Depression, insomnia, and just about all my other problems... except for anxiety. I say the pros way out way the cons... but there are a lot of side affects. You are actually almost guarantied to get some even if you start off at a low does... however as you get more usto it they will begin to fade.

normally it doesnt, but it CAN be a side effect. it made me depressed and guilty all the time. just take adderall and an antidepressant
