Anyone on Paxil or anyone with Narcolepsy??

Do you have muscle jerking apon sitting or lying down that causes your limbs or your body to jerk for about 5-10 mins. i am trying to decide if it is the medicine or the Narcolepsy. It is not seizures because I get up and it stops until I sit down again. Thanks.

I take it for Cataplexy, severe mucsle weakness that makes my legs give out without warning, swallowing difficulties and sleep paralysis. It has been a God send for those symptoms. These are full jerks where I come up out of bed orthe chair, no twitching about it. I only take paxil, because cetian antidepressants control Cataplexy and that is the only way i am allowed to drive and hold down a job.

when i was taking paxil, i developed severe myoclonic jerks.

withdrawing from this drug is dangerous and difficult. if you feel this is the cause of your problem, please speak to your doctor and ask for guidance to get weaned off of it. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN.

i have a big issue with doctors prescribing an anti-depressant for anything other than depression. not so sure i even agree with that. there are other ways to treat narcolepsy. do some research. ask your doc about the alternatives.

thank you for enlightening me. i hope your doctors can find a way to alleviate the jerks so you can remain on the paxil. i reported these side affects to the mfr. and fda several years ago. folks should be aware of all the possible side affects. Report It

I am on Paxil and other medicines. I did notice a slight jerking of my toes and such for awhile that really bothered me. I don't know if it was from the Paxil or other medicine.

What meds are you on for Narcolepsy? Some of the stimulants can cause or increase some muscle jerking. Narcolepsy itself should not cause this -- I'm assuming if you've been positively diagnosed, you have had a sleep study. Did it show restless leg syndrome?

I meet all the criteria of your question, and have considered myself "twitchy" long before I was diagnosed with any sleep disorder or on any medication. I do have Restless leg syndrome as well, which probably explains my symptoms, but if you do not have RLS, that could raise new questions for me.

Side effects of Paxil can include tremors. Your "jerk" descriptions (which sounds more like what I consider a "twitch") are not a listed Paxil side-effect.

I was put on many different medications in attempt to address this, and neurontin has worked by far the best.

Good luck and I'm interested in knowing what you find out!
