I randomly fall asleep and it's not narcolepsy.....?

I don't know why, but occasionaly I just get so tiered and it's a real effort to keep my eyes open and stop my head from nodding. I looked up narcolepsy and daytime sleepiness but neither of those two are relevant to me.

I'm not on any medication, I have a very active lifestyle, sleep well and most nights I get to sleep before midnight with only a few early mornings.

I mainly get it when I'm sitting in a lecture (and no, they're not THAT boring) and somethimes when I'm driving, which is not fun and down right dangerous sometimes.

Can any one suggest something or a way to combat it? Caffine, glucose and water only help a little, but when my eyes want to close, that's it and it's embarassing sometimes when I wake up and find the lecturer staring at me.

Thanks

Sorry, I also ment to put on there that my other half told me that I dont snore or stop breathing.

i'd strongly suggest asking your doctor for a sleep study. there are any things that could be interrupting your sleep cycles enough that while you get a good number of hours a night, the quality of those hours may be diminished.

some narcoleptics only have sleep attacks, no other symptoms like cataplexies or hallucinations. my dad is one. so there is still the possibility that narcolepsy is the cause. ideopathic hypersonia is another one...it is basically like narcolepsy but is also without the other symptoms besides occasional sleep attacks...has no known causes. apneatic episodes can be very hard to detect if they only happen a few times a night, especially since you don't snore, as an interruption in snoring is easier to hear than an interruption in breathing in someone who doesn't snore. so there is the possibility your wife just hasn't noticed any. (unless she's stayed up all night several nights in a row to watch your breathing while you sleep...in which case, i'd suggest maybe your sleepiness isn't your worst problem, lol.) restless leg syndrome can affect quality of sleep, as can depression, and a number of other things. a sleep study would be your best place to start as that one test can rule out a number of issues.

Try getting sleep at the propper time , don麓t use caffenated products at night and eat a proper breakfast (foods that take long to digest cause sleep). If you sleep and eat better you will feel better during the day.

Sleep apnea! So unless you are sleeping with someone who is a light sleeper and notices that you stop breathing during the night, you are not going to know if it is sleep apnea! Problem being you are not getting enough oxygen during your sleep so during the day you nodd off! I have a friend who has been told he has sleep apnea and I find him asleep during the day, behind the wheel of his parked car! I suggest you go for a sleep trial and they can monitor you, see what the problem is. Good Luck
