Is this narcolepsy?

Last December I went to the doctor complaining that I am extremely tired all the time regardless of how much I sleep everyday. They ran blood tests and I have iron-deficiency anemia.
I have been taking iron pills that are 320% my daily value and I am still exhausted. it is getting worse.
After work I have to take a nap. I set my alarm for 30 minutes but I can't help but keep sleeping for at least an hour or more.. For the first time ever I fell asleep in school the other day. It was a 2pm class and I slept at least 9 hours the night before. The other day I became so sleepy after a movie I was getting kind of scared I would fall asleep driving. My sleep schedule is I go to bed anywhere from midnight to 2 a.m and I don't wake up until 10 the earliest. I will set my alarm for 10 and fall back to sleep till i get mad at myself to get up at noon. i could keep sleeping. If I have to wake myself before 10, things get ugly. And I NEVER, ever feel adequately rested! I can always fall asleep!

anything's possible, but it doesn't sound like narcolepsy to me. you don't mention how old you are. narcolepsy usually manifests around 16-20, with varying degrees of symptoms getting worse as we get older.

generally, naps under 30 mins will recharge a narcoleptic...in fact the shorter the better...it makes us bounce back like a full night's rest. narcolepsy is *usually* accompanied by cataplexies (similar to a seizure except we get limp rather than stiff & we're mentally there the entire time), hallucinations (when REM kicks in too early or lasts too long, we dream as we're awake), sleep paralysis (can't move when falling asleep or waking up because we're still technically in REM), sleep attacks (can usually tell one's coming but can't do a whole lot to fight it off most of the time, they last from a few minutes to a half hour). so while it is possible that this is the beginning stages of narcolepsy, it just seems to point in another direction to me.

i'd ask my dr to run follow-up bloodwork & a sleep study to see if something else is going on.

That's the same thing I have, except I can wake up and go.

Make sure that you don't sleep too long and you eat right. Sleeping for more than 8 or 9 hours overnight can make you more tired during the day.

For example, if I sleep for 11 hours at night, I am 100x more tired the next day and fall asleep that much more often than if I sleep for 8 hours and wake up.

That's weird though because I just posted a question about my problem, which is very similar to yours.

Get on a really good food supplement program. One that is really good, but expensive, (unless you understand quality is not expensive)

I recommend the Nutrilite products that is exclusive to the Quixtar Corporation. They have outstanding second to none, vitamins, minerals and, energy supplements. you can go on line under www.quixtar.com and go from there.

I had the same problem as you, I started with the Double X multivitamins and they worked so well that I actually had a DNA test done and after wards, from the results of the tests, began taking all the specific vitamins and supplements that the test showed I was deficient in. I have been doing it ever since and I will never go off, I feel so alive and full of energy now..... at least check it out

I have been continuing this system for about three years, but it was only about three months after I began that I realized I That this is working

something to look into might be sleep apnea (sp?). you can sleep all you want but it won't help if your not resting. fighting for breath all night is going to leave you tired when you wake up.
If your regular doc can't figure it out have him refer you to a sleep specialist. good luck
