My friend has narcolepsy, what can i do?

my best friend is 24, slim, healthy and active, but it seems to be getting more frequent, to me anyway. she fell asleep when we were out for lunch yesterday and it took ages for her to come round, it was really embarassing for her, and she had a go at me for not helping, i sat with her and made her comfortable until she woke up, what more could i have done?

(She has been to a doctor)

well there is nothing you can do about her being mad now , but she should deffinately go to a doctor just because there are no serious problems now doesn't mean there couldn't be in the future, i mean you wouldn't want her to be driving and that happen!

just see a doctor and even go with her if she would like for you too :]

Insist that she see a Dr.

give her a pillow

She needs to see a neurologist very quickly.

Carry a Pillow.

you did pretty much everything you could, what does she expect? a 911 call and a marching band to wake her up? just be a good pal and make sure she doesn't tip over into anything dangerous

OUR CASHIER FALLS ASLEEP WHILE CHECKING OUT CUSTOMERS. WE JUST WAKE HER UP.

Draw on her when she's alseep.

see a dr. soon some hospitals have sleep clinics ...

Hopefully she has had the diagnosis from the doctor in which case she shoud have been prescribed drugs to help her. The only thing you can do is what you did. Stay with her and keep her safe.

be her crutch and her shield...dont let anyone mess with her while shes out...you did the right thing

Just ease her mind by telling her everything will be ok and not to worry.

We all get a little curve balls thrown at us in life and we just got to learn to roll with it and keep going!

You could have taken embarassing pics when she was out.
You know dress her up in something silly.
She is just projecting her own anger and embarssament of her problem unto you.
You did well, if you want to do more, the both of you need to learn more on dealing with narcolepsy.

You should always drive when you two are together other than that........she just has to take her meds she will be fine.

Maybe she needs to go to the Doctor and be com firmed of her problem and prescribed some Meds for her health problem. What if you weren't there,or she's driving when this sleep occurs. She needs help (ASAP!!!!)
I had a friend that had a Seizure and ran over a pedestrian
and kill this poor innocence person.

Narcolepsy is that the doctors diag I don't think so and if I'm correct then maybe she should get diagnosed by a specialist

This website is very good have a look.

To be honest I think you did the right thing. It will happen and there is nothing else you can do except protect her when she is asleep and help her to overcome her fears etc when she comes to. You could not do anything else. If shes really needs help you will have to go to the doctor with her on her next visit and ask them

a true friend well done you insist on her seeing a specialist ....don't know of any other advice I can give except you true friend but ...you cant be there 24/7 so insist ....PS next time it happens call 999 every time then maybe she get help
