Do I have narcolepsy?

Sometimes my eyelids just get heavy and everything gets blurry. Sometimes have trouble keeping eyes open. Sometimes feel slightly faint.

This isn't a constant in my daily life.

There are other symptoms with narcolepsy that you don't mention so I doubt you have that. It sounds more like extreme fatigue that you are suffering.

You should have some basic blood tests; get your thyroid level checked; if it's underactive it can cause tiredness.

Depending on your age, you could also get tested for glandular fever - it's not serious, but it makes you want to sleep the entire time! If you test positive, the doctor will advise you to rest as much as possible for the next month or so, and gradually your energy level will come back.

If you also feel faint quite often, you should have your blood pressure checked. A diabetes test might also be in order, especially if it runs in your family and if you feel thirsty a lot.

It could be a sign of low blood sugar too. You should talk to your doctor about your symptoms.

You may be suffering from low blood sugar or exhaustion. Have you been told you snore? Sometimes people that snore experience apnea (their breathing stops for some time). This causes you to be very tired during day and your eyelids to feel heavy.

How many hours of sleep do you get at night? Is your bedtime the same every night? What is your schedule like??

I am an EMT... almost a paramedic, and from medical advice it doesnt sound like you have narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is a disorder marked by sudden, uncontrollable urges to sleep, causing an individual to fall asleep at inappropriate times. Meaning that you can be driving down the road and fall asleep.... just like that.... and have no control over what happens or control of keeping yourself awake.

As the previous poster mentioned.. low blood sugar can make you weak and lethargic, amongst other things. Does your family have a history of hypoglycemia or diabetes?? It would be worth talking to your doctor about and possibly having some tests run.

There are alot of factors that can play in to make you feel the way you have been feeling. Lack of sleep and a busy schedule with little rest can cause some of it... trust me, I know... I work on an ambulance 40+ hours a week. Stress can take its toll on your body in more ways than you thought possible. Try being stressed so bad that you get heart palpitations, its hard for you to sleep at night and then you get esophogeal ulcers and massive heartburn on top of it all....

If things keep up, deffinately seek further medical advice.
