Diseases from blood? |
i went to petco and my cat scratched the petco person ,lots of blood and it went all over the place including the cat and the carrier. i touched the carrier and i don't know if i got any blood on my hands. my teacher said that if a little bit of blood goes in your nail you could get a disease. do you think i got a disease from it? and my sister did het some blood on her hand well....the best thing to have done is wash your hands thoroughly........if ya did this, then not to worry...if however, you had a cut or put your fingers in your mouth, there are a couple of things that can be spread...hepatitis B,hep c,even aids....get a blood test now and in 3mos to check for these.....more than likely, you are safe...good luck..... was the petco employee diseased? did the blood get into your blood stream? did you was your hands? are you paranoid? is everyone out to get you? if the petco person has HIV or something, you could have gotten it too. Relax. Yes, you can get bloodborne illnesses if infected blood gets into a cut or a mucus membrane, but the Petco person would have to HAVE a disease first. whos blood? the petco person, ew, did you ask the person if yu should get checked out? blood would have to get in an open wound. for me i would go to the doc, you never know. i wonder why your cat did that, first time out? maybe you shouldnt take her out for the cats safety. Just wash you hands well with soap and water. More likely the petco person got something infectious from the cat scratch. If you didn't have an open sore on your hands , then you should be okay. You won't catch anything unless a)the petco person has a blood borne disease and b)you have broken skin on your hands/wherever the blood went. You should be fine. HIV--the virus that causes AIDS--can only survive for two seconds when it is exposed to oxygen. As soon as the petco employees cut opened up the blood was exposed to the air. If you didn't touch her blood until five seconds later there is no way you could get AIDS. As for other diseases I can't say. Cat-scratch disease is infection caused by Bartonella henselae. Symptoms are a local papule and regional lymphadenitis. Diagnosis is clinical and confirmed by biopsy. Treatment is with local heat application and analgesics. |
