Why do I have dry skin?

I have some dry skin on my body, ususally my hands (especially around finger nails where it is always chapped), The lower parts of my legs, are dry and "scaly" (my brother has this) it looks like small red dots everywhere, with a layer of dryness on top. And my feet are always dry, with lumps of hard skin on the base. Sometimes my face is always dry. I use moisturizer, but the dryness comes back if I wash. Some people tell me it's because I don't drink enough water. But do I have some kind of skin disease?

Also I am only 16.

I had a friend when I was your age that had the same problem. Some people just have dry skin and no matter what they use, their skin isn't conducive to becoming moisturized. I wouldn't really worry about it, unless you develop rashes or your skin cracks and it's painful. Take the advice of everyone around you and drink plenty of water (7 or 8 cups a day I believe) and take vitamins. It is winter also and skin seems to dry out a little more.

try taking vitamin e....you may have a type of skin disease...also try a body wash for dry skin...oil of olay etc.

You need to exfoliate in the shower get a good lufa! Then after the shower you need to then moisturize your skin all over with a good coco butter lotion. If this does not resolve the issue then you need to go to the Dr to find out if this is a skin issue.

you have a skin dermatitis, it can be helped with proper lotios and also going in a tanning bed - ask a doctor there are various treatable types - im sure the cold makes a diff. or something more serious not to be concerned is excema(spelling) for that you need medicated cream

First I am not a doctor.

I have similar problems especially on my hands and knees. I use Hyderm

Hydroctisone Acetate
cream usp, 1%

This is straight off the jar beside me. Works wounders and my skin feels soft.
My wife like to put it on me because it makes her hand soft as well. I tell I dont need help her response oh yes you do lol

I get a perscription for it from my doc. My group plan covers it except the dispensing fee.

For my feet that would crack and bleed I use a cream they use on a horse split hoof and boy iy works fantastic. My feet were fixed up in two to 3 days. I got it at a vets office. My doc has perscribe stuff before did not work well and this stuff was much cheaper.

I just got desperate I could hardly walk. Your choice.

Good Luck

This lotion works great for really dry skin. It is rather thick but just use it everyday and you will notice a big difference. Try anything with alpha hydroxy acid in it, but take it slow since it will tingle the first few times you use it.

Also, you should try some jojoba oil. It is used to help control various skin problems.

For your feet, try one of these files on your dry skin before you hop in the shower and follow the shower with your lotion.

Good luck!

Dry skin types have to be extremely careful to protect their skin. Yogurt-honey combination helps dry skin. Make an egg pack with a yolk, a teaspoon of honey, a tablespoon of milk powder. This is beneficial to dry skin types. There are many helpful tips to cure dry skin at http://useinfo-dryskin.blogspot.com/

For dry skin, use a creamy cleanser to melt away dirt. Leave it on your skin before sweeping it away with cotton wool. Splash cold water onto your face to clean and refresh your skin.
