I was recently diagnosed with a phlebitis-like disease....?

Phlebitis-like because it's either that or some form of cellulitis. It began with a pain at the joint between my pinky finger and next to last finger after I finished nailing some boards together. It's located on the palm side of my hand (of all places and, again, between my pinky and next-to-last finger). I've outline the reddened areas: the joint area itself and the course it's taking down the superficial veins in my arm -- this has increased about 1/2 an inch). I've been on Keflex b.i.d. for two days now and it doesn't seem to be improving (more swollen this AM than ever & I'm unable to make a solid fist without it hurting really bad). Questions: should I switch to Levaquin? Is there a chance that it will have to be drained? What could have caused this to happen? I get "sick" maybe once every two to three years (be it viral or other). Otherwise, I've been fortunate to remain healthy. I'm in my mid-30s. Any help is appreciated.

Easy there, tiger... there's no rule against asking whether or not I should switch medications. Just seeking advice, since both medications have the same skin indication.

Your doctor should be prescribing your medicine. Ask him tomorrow morning or if it is so bad you can't stand it, go to the ER today. You can't ask a forum like this about whether you should switch meds. We don't know you and can't prescribe for you, even if we have MD after our name.
