Doesn't Myopia (far-sightedness) stop getting worse when you're grown-up?

I heard most Myopia stops once you're grown up but it was the other way around in my case. I first got far-sightedness prescription when I was 14 or so and I only wore my glasses when I was in class. My prescription didn't change any until I was 19. I studied computer science in college and got a job as a programmer. My eye sights got worse since I was in college.

I started to wear glasses all the time a few years ago and I'm now 28. Last year my prescription was -2.25 left eye -2.25 right eye and the right eye had -0.50 cyl 110 axis astigmatism which I never had before. I got my eye checked again a few days ago and it got worse. -2.75 left eye, -3.00 right eye -0.75 cyl 110 axis.

What can I do to stop my eye sights from getting worse? I was planning to get a PRK or LASIK next year but I think I'll wait until my eye sights are stabilized. I'm just wondering why my myopia is getting worse when I'm not growing up anymore.

BTW, I work 8 hr on computers so my eyes feel like * after work.

i dont think so. i noticed that when i wore my glasses mroe often it made my prescription worse. since you only wore yours in class when you were younger thats probably why it stabilized for a bit. talk to your optometrist about what you can do to stabilize your prescription. i dont think it matters if whether or not you wait to get lasik tho. you could try RPC contact lenses-you'll need to wear them everyday tho. they're supposed to help stabilize your prescription

I am also 28, and I am getting more nearsighted.I think ur eyes just change as you get older. Heredity has a lot to do with it. Lasik takes a long time to heal, they leave a flap on your eye. ewwwwww

I heard getting hard contact lenses somewhat reduces it...or surgery. It SHOULD stop getting worse when you reach a certain age- and that age is not the same for all people, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. However make sure you keep seeing an optometrist yearly and getting your eyes checked in case its some disease taking control or god forbid something of the sort. Best of luck-

Theoretically, at some point you develop presbyopia ("old eyes"), which means you start getting more farsighted. I believe this starts in middle age. My right lens is now somewhere around minus 13 (doesn't quite look like a furniture caster, but it might if I had a larger glasses frame and quit using high-density lenses). This is thicker than it was when I was younger; part of this is that my vision has changed, and part of it is that now they have the technology to make minus-13 lenses which fit between your glasses frame and your face.

Myopia: Nearsightedness;

Presbyopia: Farsightedness.

If you are mildly nearsighted, you may in fact end up with reading glasses (convex lenses) down the line. Before you get there, your glasses will get thinner and thinner; and possibly you will have some time where you won't need glasses at all. I was told I probably will be wearing concave lenses (for nearsightedness) all my life (although they will get thinner at some point).

Eyes do what they do - there's usually nothing that can be done short of surgery. Lasik and PRK can't even fully correct my own eyesight. I would still have to have reading glasses after Lasik, myself. Just take the best info you have and deal with changes in vision as you begin to age. Things will change as you get older too. I'm 31 my eyes are getting worse. I'm wearing tri focals now, have been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade. The older you get the worse it will get. But you wont go blind from it. Just your glasses will get more expensive.

Talk to your dr. about the work you do. Thats why I have tri focals. One is for driving one's for reading the other is for the computer. It has helped me alot.
