Is lasik laser treatment for myopia really effective??

hi, i suffer from myopia and my doctor suggested that i have "lasik" laser surgery to correct it. has anyone undergone this procedure?? i have read that it is not 100% effective, there may be side effects. and even after doing the treatment, there is still a chance that i will have to wear glasses?? does anyone have more info? please help

I had to have the procedure done twice due to very poor vision before the surgeries
now?
worth every penny to not have to wear glasses right now

I will most likely need OTC reading glasses as I age

Yes, lasik is definitely an effective treatment for myopia! While it's not for everyone, it can greatly improve your vision and free you from glasses and contacts. It works very well for most nearsighted people.
This is a surgical procedure and being that, there are risks involved, but they are actually pretty low and easily fixed. And there's lots of new technology available that decreases the risks and makes the outcome better. (Check out all laser lasik and custom wavefront).
As far as needing glasses, it's very unlikely that you would still need glasses for distance, but when you get older (over 40 or so), you will probably need glasses for reading. But so will everyone, even people who don't have lasik.
It is pretty expensive though, and you really would want to make sure that you get a good, experienced doctor. Hope this helps,
Good luck!

I had it done and it was one of the best things I ever did for myself. I ended up with better than 20/20! Four of my coworkers had it done and all of them are pleased as well. If you are a good candidate and you get a very experience doctor you should get excellent results. Side affects are rare. Glasses won't be needed until you are over 40 and may need readers as most people normally do with aging. When you get your initial exam the doctor will let you know if you are a candidate and inform you how the process is done. Good Luck!

LASIK is very effective for correction myopia. It is true that a surgeon cannot guarantee you 20/20 vision - it all depends on how your eyes adjust to the surgery. If you're not at 20/20 after the first surgery, as long as you have enough corneal tissue you may do a retreatment to fine tune it and get it there.

Go to a LASIK center and get a consultation. It should be free of charge with no obligations for surgery. A thorough exam should last between an hour and a half to two hours and your eyes may be dilated. You should meet with the surgeon and he/she should be able to tell you the chances of you getting 20/20 as well as the chances of you needing a retreatment and if you will need glasses afterwards (which is very slim - but if you do, the correction may be smaller than your current correction) - that depends on the amount of nearsightedness.

Side effects include over or under correction (can be fixed with a retreatment) or night vision side effects - halos, glares and starbursts at night (treatable with the wavefront or custom cornea treatment).
