Severe Myopia?

I was wondering how severe myopia can get. I know some people have -6, -7, -8, etc. but how high can the number actually go. And for those who have severe myopia, what do you do to protect your eyes from things like retina tears?

There are people who have in excess of -15.00 diopter correction. These people literally are blind and could see past their nose.

I have severe myopia since I was born. When i was three I had a -13. I currently have a -15ish in both eyes and I am seventeen. My doctor gave me some rigid gas permeable contacts and that helps a lot, but i can only wear it for a certain hours a day. Report It

I have a severe myopia, and the doctor told me to weare contacts, my eyes are -8. I wear gas permeable, and it has slow loosing my eyesight.
I have been wearing them for 30 years ( I am not young). I don't want to have a laser operation as I have read not good stories about it. (99% fine, but what if you are that 1% that fails???)

i go 4 regular eye exams to check 4 retinal tears. if any tears show up, the opthalmologist will seal the tears with laser. i have to keeping looking out for any reddish or pinkish color to the floaters i already experience in my visual field. this is blood and a retinal tear.
