Thin glasses lense...are there any for extreme myopia.?

Are there such thing as thin lenses for glasses.like really thin ones.
I have extreme myopia and my glasses lenses are like two nickel stacked together.
its suck because I'm 17 years old and i have really thick glasses.

planning to get lasik but they say my vision get worser every year and you must the same vision for a year.
I'm scared I might get blind when I turn 30 years old and glasses cant do anything anymore. = (

It sounds like you have a pretty strong prescription. There is probably no way to make your lenses extremely thin but there are some things you can do to dramatically decrease the thickness of your eyeglass lenses. The edge thickness of your lenses is related to two variables.

First, the index of refraction of the material your lenses are made of. Index of refraction describes the ability of a unit of the material to effect light. The thinnest material available is crown glass. The problem with crown glass, though, is that it is quite heavy. Therefore, most people choose to use some type of plastic. The old CR 39 plastic is the industrial standard but is thicker. So, several different types of high density high index plastics are now available.

Different companies have different lenses. Spectralite is a good lens which offers thinner design along with good optical quality. Talk to your doctor and ask him to recommend the high index lens he likes best.

Second, the eye size (overall diameter) of the frame you choose. This can have just as great an effect on minimizing edge thickness as using a high index lens. So, I would recommend choosing a frame that has as small a diameter eye size as you can.

Also, if you stay away from rimless frames (frames that do not go completely around the lens) the frame itself will cover some of the thickness of the lens and give the appearance of your lenses looking thinner. That is especially true with plastic frames which are thicker and therefore hide even more of the edge of the lens. In addition, make sure and have your eye doctor polish the edges of the lenses. Polished lenses appear to be thinner than non polished.

Hope this helped.

My son also has myopia.
As I understand it, for that prescription the glasses must be thick.
Surgery is available, My friend had it and it was painless.
It does not guarantee correction however.
