Did anyone had Lasics done with serious myopia?

Mine's both-.9, very nearsighted. I would like to get the procedure soon, but I would like to see if anyone had -.8or up myopia and was done successfully.
What is the experience really like? Do they really scrap your cornea with a metal knife?

Before my PRK, I was -7.75 and -8.25...and after...I'm already 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other with a scratch healing (my fault). I considered anything better than 20/40 a success, and am very happy with my results...only 2 weeks out.

I was so nervous walking in there...but the surgeon had answered all of my questions before going into the procedure room. They also gave me a mild sedative to help take the edge off my anxiousness.

LASIK is the procedure where a flap is created, using a microkeratome, either blade or laser. PRK is a procedure probably better suited for thinner corneas (as in my case) where they do scrape the corneal epithelium only off...but it was with a little brush...and after they numbed my eyes...it actually tickled some! They measure the cornea in thicknesses of microns (much much smaller than millimeters)...and the LASIK flap usually ranges in about 140-160 microns and the PRK only takes the epithelium, which ranges 30-50 microns.

It took longer to prep and position me than it did for the actual laser and I was done within 10 minutes. Healing time was about 4 days with bandage contact lenses, whereas my husband's LASIK healing time was only a day or two.

My best advice is to go in for a consultation, keep in mind that there are more than one laser correction surgery, and choose and research your surgeon carefully...I chose mine on experience and education rather than price...and my cost was a little higher due to needing the custom wavefront due to my thinner corneas and needed a cornea sparing surgery...but still fell within the average range for the US...at about 1700/eye....but since I'm seeing this good...corrected to where I do not need glasses to drive...results better than I had expected, especially this early postop...I consider my PRK a success.

I had lasics done about 5 years ago.Mine's were very bad nearsighted,could drive without glasses,could see anything.No there is no knife just laser.They give you some relaxant and some eye drops,the procedure takes seconds.After that they give you dark sunglasses to wear and eye drops,and you need to relax and sleep.Make sure you have someone drive you back home.For 1-2 days you will feel like you have sand in your eyes,not too bad,just take a lot of rest.After 2 days my vision was 20/20 and still now.Just make sure do not rub on your eyes after procedure for few weeks and I think you can not use any make up also,they will tell you everything.I did not have any bad reaction,just follow the directions from the doctor and you will be fine.I was absolutely happy by doing that ,my life change so bad ,I do not worry about glasses or contact lenses..Whole world have changed for me in my eyes.Good Luck!!
