Big change in vision (myopia) during annual exam -should I worry?

Had my annual, trying out a trial contact lens, the left eye is great but the right still a bit, slightly blurred, saw the doc today, different doc, the one I see wasn't in today, this doc owns the practice and has done research on myopia. My vision for the past couple of years has been steady but now my left went from -5.50 to -6.00 and my right went from -5.50 to -6.50, he told me that's not to big a change and said there was no reason for dilating my eyes or any other further test, he said I looked fine and it's normal for people with myopia to go up but it seems like a a huge jump for my right eye, to go from -5.50 to -6.50 scares the hell out of me, am I going blind or something? He also mentioned that after a certain point you can't get contact lenses, that some don't go past -6.00?
Is it normal to go from -.5.50 to -6.50? What if it goes up again next year, do they even make contact lenses that go beyond -6.50? Completely scared, afraid that something is wrong.

Amount of power jump (progression of myopia) really depends on your age. if you are in your late teens or early to mid twenty's then this jump is rather normal. if you are in your thirty's and forty's, then this jump is rather high.

you should be dilated once every three years if you are below 40 years of age.

sounds normal to me, i would not worry. If you jumped 3 diopters then i would worry. Most contacts go to about a -9.5 btw

If you're in your teens or in college, this is relatively normal.

2 things you may want to be conscious of is:
Don't rub your eyes
Don't use the computer too much

Both of these behaviors will make your Vision worse, so DON'T rub your eyes or use the computer too much.

Different contact brands can go to different powers. You can at least go all the way to -10.00 with some lenses.

Hormones could have made a big difference in how much your prescription jumps--if you are still young and going through puberty, that could have been what caused your prescription to jump so much. There's probably nothing to worry about if your optometrist said that your vision has changed normally. If you realize that it is going down noticeably at any point, you should get in contact with your eye doc again.
