Is there a cure for myopia and hyperopia? |
From my understanding, myopia and hyperopia (as well as certain forms of astigmatism) are caused by an irregular shape of the eyeball. If this is so, have scientists found a way to reshape the eyeball and cure these conditions? Are there other implications that conditions like myopia and hyperopia cause that make this difficult? What relevant research is being done today? A person developing a refractive error (myopia/hyperopia/astigmatism) is mainly due to their genetics. Lasik surgery is effective for treating myopia for some people. From http://eye-care.in/myopia.html yes i agree u, why dont they reshape our eyeballs? we are all teached that "myopia and hyperopia (as well as certain forms of astigmatism) are caused by an irregular shape of the eyeball". There is no CURE for myopia or hyperopia or astigmatism, per se. Laser surgery and other forms of refractive surgery can reshape the cornea to off-set the refractive error caused by the anatomy of your eye but to date, there are no procedures available that will actually change the anatomy of the eye...perhaps one day! |
