My son aged 6 has been diagnosed with myopia of about -3 in each eye, will he defenitly b severly myopic later |
I am so concerned about my son, I am -8 myself, and his dad is probably -4 but I wasnt myope in his age and I started with -1 at the age of 10, what will his future be, we took him to hospital, and they checked the back of his eyes and they said that there are no problems, but I am soo concerned, can myopia stabilize, or will it deteriorate so badly???Help please! myopia simply is a an over powered eye ,it can be axial(size related ) or refractive in the cornea or lenses the extra diopters,if he has axial myopia it may increase as he grows up ,if refractive also but tends to be unpredictable and sometimes stabilizes ,the only treatment is glasses and regular annual follow up ,u will know if every year he is increasing to higher grade or not ,of course the genetics is obvious and he inherited it ,regular wearing of glasses makes myopia more stable due to less accomodation and stretching of the eye ,, As children grow, their eyes continue to grow slightly, often into their late teens or early twenties. This growth affects the shape of the eyeball. If the eyeball is too long, then the result is myopia. Considering that you and his dad both have significant myopia, it is reasonable to assume that your son will have inherited the same genes. And being so young, he has a lot of development yet to go. However, there is a chance that his vision will stabilize and in some cases, it even gets better as the eye develops but I wouldn't get your hopes up. It is very likely he will have vision similar to you and his dad. |
