Is Myopia a disability with the eye?

Is Myopia a disability with the eye?

myopia is just the proper term for short-sightedness.
I wouldn't say that it's a disabillity as many people have it mildly and don't need glasses.

It is a defect, yes.
It is also known as nearsightedness :)

There are different degrees of Myopia, and I'm sure most would class High Myopia as a disability.

However, I don't like to label anything as a disability, or anyone as disabled, so you can read through the links below and decide :)

Yes, Myopia is nearsightedness. Those with Myopia typically can see nearby objects clearly but distant objects appear blurred.

It's caused by the lens going out of shape. Since a majority of people suffer from it at some stage in their lives, it's not so much a disability as a design fault.

It shouldn't be a disability, but is a defect of you eye. It's simply nearsightedness, where one sees things close up more clearly and it blurs at a distance. Glasses or contact lenses are needed. Even lasik surgery is an option.

It is a disability if you were a hunter but not if a gatherer.

Not necessarily a disability - but a defect in the eye - a defect which is also very prevalent amongst politicians too

Myopia is certainly a problem with the eye, it's short- or near-sightedness.

Under the Disability Discrimination Act it is only counted as a disability if it CAN NOT be corrected with glasses.

yes, known as shortsightedness
