What is cardiac myopathy?

Is there any cure for myopathy and how long the patients can survive. is surgery possible.

Can they survive without medicine

Nanlwart answered the medical part of your question, but my answer deals with me actually being diagnosed with this disease @ 32 yrs old. Yes, you will survive as long as you watch fluid & salt intake. Its hard to do,but definitly worth the effort-b/c you'll feel ALOT better. Plus, taking the meds regularly helps, too. The only surgury that I know of is a transplant. Most of the answers you need can be found on webmd.Good Luck!

Cardiomyopathy, or heart muscle disease, is a type of progressive heart disease in which the heart is abnormally enlarged, thickened and/or stiffened. As a result, the heart muscle's ability to pump blood is weakened, often causing heart failure and the backup of blood into the lungs or rest of the body. The disease can also cause abnormal heart rhythms.

Usually, the condition begins in the heart's lower chambers (the ventricles), but in severe cases can affect the upper chambers or atria as well.

There are three main types of cardiomyopathy:

Dilated cardiomyopathy
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Restrictive cardiomyopathy
