Anyone ever have dialated cardio-myopathy?

I was diagnosed w/ this 10 months ago @ age 23 , does anyone have this? I know eating right, controlling the salt intake and exersicing will help, but what is the likely hood of me dying from this at a young age if I were not to follow that regime? (and yes I already am on the regime) Also following the regime , do I have a better chance at living longer?

I was diagnosed in February 2005 with an ideopathic cardiomyopathy, i dont know if there is a difference in the two, but i can tell you when it happened, My ejection fraction was below 20 and they were talking heart transplant. I have followed their diet and their plan. I have taken a ton of a medicine called coreg, along with doivan, spironolatone, lasix, and vitamin e. I just had another echo two weeks ago. With all of this my ef is now alomost 50 and still rising. The doctors implanted a pacemaker/defibrillator, and i am almost back to normal feeling again. It Scared the hell out of me, but after doing a lot of reasearch and what the doctor says, I should be able to live a relatively normal life now!! Feel free to contact me @dmckinner@yahoo.com if i can support you in any way. I just turned 34 so I know how it feels to be young and have this happen!! Good L:uck!

I to have been diagnosed with dilated cardio-myopathy at 35 just 2 months ago. The info from the previous answer is a good site for peer answers. We are both lucky to have caught this early, hopfully yours is in early stage 1-2 class heart failure. This has been a very confusing and scary time for me. Keep possitve and follow your cardioligist instructions and we will live relativly normal life spans.
