How many of u have heard of IHSS?

IHSS (Idiopathic Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis) is a rare form of Hypertrophic Cardio Myopathy. Or a enlargemnet of the septum muscle and left ventricular wall. It can cause all kinds of problems from elevated heart rate and blood pressure to sudden cardiac death. My question is How many of u have heard of it or dealt with it and how often do u think about your heart.

Yes I have. Here's a little information on it.

Idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (IHSS)

--------------------------------------...

DESCRIPTION: This entity was the first known form of the hypertrophic cardiomyopathies (HCM) with the characteristic finding of inappropriate (disproportionate to the hemodynamic load) myocardial hypertrophy
IHSS is characterized by a dynamic pressure gradient in the subaortic area leading clinically to both:
Diastolic dysfunction with impaired ventricular filling and elevated atrial filling pressures producing dyspnea
Systolic dysfunction with limitation of cardiac output response to exercise, exertional syncope, and secondary left ventricular hypertrophy
Diagnosis usually is made by recognition of signs associated with outflow obstruction, but symptoms are predominantly characterized by diastolic dysfunction

System(s) affected: Cardiovascular

Genetics:
Autosomal dominant with > 50% penetrance
Evidence of disease (usually milder) is found in 25% of first degree relatives. Relatives usually do not have outflow obstruction, exhibit only localized hypertrophy, and are asymptomatic.

Incidence/Prevalence in USA: Uncommon

Predominant age: Most commonly presents in third decade (disease of young adulthood), but occurs from newborns to elderly

Predominant sex: Male = Female

CAUSES: Thickened septum impinging on the anterior mitral valve leaflet during systole causing outflow obstruction

Synonyms:

Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM)

Muscular subaortic stenosis

ive never heard of it, but being a heart patient i think of my heart all the time especially since im a sudden cardic death primary
