Is anyone familiar with Fibromyalgia?

I've been diagnosed with severe Fibromyalgia but my primary diagnosis is Metabolic Myopathy.
The problem that I have is this:
They treat Fibro with muscle relaxers, which I am not able to take because of the Myopathy.
This affects my whole life. I've been trying anything and everything but getting discouraged.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

speak to your dr about some other meds. i was put on zoloft to regulate the seratonin in my system really helped alot.

Yeah my sister has it and my cousin. Here's the site my cousin likes: http://www.fibrohugs.com/

The man who is directing my play also has it. Of course this means that he is not as disabled by the fibro as some are. He has to be careful not to overdo.

I've known other people who have it too. My own unscientific observation is that it seems to start when people are terribly stressed, overworked, sleep deprived or in a "damned-if-you -do-damned-if-you-don't- situation. My sister's doctor said that it isn't progressive like some diseases and people do recover but it's a long process and you can't push yourself. You have to take it a little at a time.

The mainstay of therapy is getting good sleep. Benzodiazepines have been shown to be detrimental in fibromyalgia, so don't take them for sleep. Alcohol too. TCAs are effective, but so are some other meds. Is your treating physician a neurologist or a pain management specialist?

Hi, Chekota

I found some information on fibromyalgia on the website-

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/FIBROMY...
A syndrome characterized by chronic pain in the muscles and soft tissues surrounding joints, fatigue, and tenderness at specific sites in the body. Also called fibromyalgia syndrome, fibromyositis, fibrositis.

The American Heritage庐 Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition copyright 漏2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company. Updated in 2003. Published by Houghton Mifflin Company. All rights reserved.

Here is some more information on fibromyalgia www.webmd.com just type in fibromyalgia and click on health centers for fibromyalgia. There is alot of information but the first defination I used on top should make sense.

Try taking hot showers, baths, moist heat or plain heating pad and some type of pain med. Massages are great too although it helps to use some type of analgesic prior to massage.
