Heart problem for 3 years, 3 docs and 3 thoughts on treatment...?

3 years ago, I had a heart ailment hit me. Over 2 weeks, I got tired easily, and finally had a hard time catching my breathe. I was 42, at the time.

Went to doctor, and after several exams, found that my heart was enlarged, and was subsequently diagnosed with cardio myopathy, CHF, and ongoing a-fib. Left and right ventricle markedly enlarged, and left atrium moderately enlarged. My left ventrical ejection fraction averages 25-30% with each test. Moderate aortic and mitral valve regurgitation.

My question. 3 docs have give me 3 different opinions for treatment. I am on meds: coreg, enalapril, lanoxin, lasix, and aldactone.

One thinks that the best thing for me, is to continue with the meds, surgery (on the heart valve) wouldnt do enough good to warrant getting cut into. Second one thinks I should get heart valves replaced/operated on. The third thinks I should try to get on a transplant list, since I am otherwise very healthy.

Any one else in similiar situation? Ideas?

I am down to short walks where I used to go on 2 week hikes with full packs.

Sometimes I get dizzy just standing, taking a long shower, or washing dishes.

Hoping someone can give me some insight of there own.

I have been off work for 3 years now.

While it is frustrating to have 3 different opinions. I can see that the treatment that you are currently doing is not helping and your quality of life is diminishing. So you have to think to take a new direction. Seek as much information on your diagnosis as possible...Find any alternative therapy's that may increase your quality of life. You could get the surgery and still look into alternative therapy afterward to improve your healing progress and put you on the right track to a better life..seek knowledge then make a decision don't entirely rely on doctors opinions...

Are any of them heart specialist? If not seek one if you are able. ER doctors tend to over exaggerate when it come to the heart. Please seek a person who does just cardio-vascular

Your efforts to meet 3 docs shows your interest in finding 2nd opinions and a search for real treatment

You may also contact some doctors for non-surgical opinions with the hospital mentioned below

You should never try online remedies without prior consultation with your doctor (second opinions most appreciated)

I would consider all three options. The drugs will keep you well and the transplant will keep you alive longer. If you have siblings get them to have their hearts checked out. good luck

Go with what your instincts tell you. Deep down you know what you really need to do. Seeking the advice of a specialist is a good idea. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis about nine years ago. I have found that in the long run listening to my instincts has been the best thing for me. I am still walking despite what doctors have told me. Always go with what you think is best. That is what I have done. I have followed my instincts and listened to a specialist that only deals with my condition.
