MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION IS heart attack, what is ACUTE MI? Acute MI is the process by which Myocardial infraction take, the former is a verb and the later is noun. Acute means it all seems to happen at once without the buildup of symptoms that many people have, even spread over a matter of days. it is the kind of myocardial infarction that kills you, as opposed to Mild MIs Acute means that something occured suddenly; chronic means something that has occured over a period of time. For example, if I suddenly developed a fever, it would be considered acute. But if I suffered from diabetes, it would be considered chronic. Personally, I have chronic headaches; I have had them everyday for the last 16 years. It's interesting though that you mention an acute MI because if you think about it, there are no chronic MI's; I never thought about that before. |
