What is myocardial infarction?

What is myocardial infarction?

It's medical-speak for a heart attack.

Cardial has to do with the heart, myo- means muscle-affecting, and infarction is a death of tissue due to oxygen starvation.

In other words, something blocked the supply of blood to the the heart briefly and part of it died. It's a pretty bad thing to happen, honestly. Not the least because sometimes it can be difficult to tell exactly what caused it.

If someone you know has a myocardial infarction, they'll probably be put on strong blood thinners in case clots are forming in their blood stream, and told to drastically lower their cholesterol and the like in case it's a build-up of plaque that's the problem. They'll probably keep a pretty close eye on you for a while in case it happens again.

I believe it's a heart attack

Heart attack.

Myocardial Infarction (commonly called Heart Attack) is the death of cardiac muscle due to its deprivation of blood supply carrying oxygen and nutrients .

This more commonly occurs when a coronary artery ,carrying the blood to the heart muscle, becomes blocked 1.By a blood clot (coronary throbbosis) 2. A blood clot superimposed on a cholesterol plaque (Atheroma) . 3.Spasm ot the coronary artery superimposed on an already atheromatous narrowing of a coronary artery.

The M Infarction or death of the cardiac muscle is limited to the area of supply of the coronary artery distal to the complete block.

Hope this answers your question.

All body tissues and organs need blood for oxygen and glucose.
In case of ant obstruction in vessels due to any thing that organ stops working because of cellular death or infarction.
Myocardial infarction in heart cellular damage and/or death due to the obstruction in coronary artery that results from smoking, high cholesterol level of blood, being stressful and etc.
