What is the difference between myocardial infarction and a heart attack?

What is the difference between myocardial infarction and a heart attack?

They are the same thing. Myocardial Infarction refers to the death (infarction) of the muscle (myo) of the heart (cardial)

Same thing, medical term vs. laymans term.

myocardial infarction is just a fancy way of saying heart attack, they're the same thing.

Myocardial Infarction is just the medical term for heart attack they mean the same.

Gee. I'm no M.D., but i thought they were the same thing.

The first term is medical language; the second one normal day to day talk.

Myocardial Infarction and heart attack are the same thing. Meaning, that part of the heart muscle died. The heart can heal by collateral circulation, meaning blood vessels form around necrotic(dead or damaged area of the heart). Thanks for the opportunity to respond to a really good question.

An infarct is not a heart attack. A myocardial infarction is a cause of one kind of heart attack.
Ventricular fibrillation is another kind of heart attack.

My late husband had a myocardial infarction,I ask what that was the DR said it meant mild heart attack.
