Is there any correlation between an irregular hearbeat and cardiac episodes?

I am concerned, because I have an irregular heartbeat, and my biological grandfather died of a heart attack many years ago.

I know that I have risk factors, and I want to make some positive changes.

Does the fact that I have an irregular heartbeat make me more likely to have a cardiac episode?

What are the differences, if any, between the following:

1. Cardiac arrest
2. Cardiac episode
3. Myocardial infarction
4. Heart attack

Thank you for your answers.

Yes, the fact that you have an irregular heartbeat (no matter the cause) indicates you do have some sort of cardiac issue.

Cardiac arrest is when the heart just stops for whatever reason (including respiratory failure). As far as I know, a "cardiac episode" can be any kind of incident related to the heart. And a myocardial infarction IS a heart attack.

Definitely check with a cardiologist and get started making those positive changes! It's almost never too late!

Irregular heart beat can also take place due to psychological reasons. Coronary Artery Disease is also hereditary. Better, consult a cardiologist.

Questions 3 and 4 are the same thing....questions 2,3,4 could lead to question 1....

First thing is how do you know you have an irregular heartbeat? Was it diagnosed by a doctor?Or is this something you've felt at times??? And what is your age???
There are many things that play into cardiac "episodes" as there are many different cardiac problems....such as diet, age, activity levels, weight, medical history,medications,stress....but if you feel that your pulse is irregular alot(while sitting etc) then you should go get it checked out by your physician. Sorry I cant help more as I dont have specific information like mentioned above...
