No, blood tests are how myeloproliferative disorders are usually found after symptoms of fatigue or bruising first arouse suspicion of illness. Different types of myeloproliferative disorders present with different initial symptoms. Myeloproliferative disorders include Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) ,polycythemia vera, chronic idiopathic myelofibrosis, essential thrombocytosis. MRI is not helpful in diagnosing the disease. Blood tests, hematological examination, radio isotope studies, bone marrow studies, and chromosomal study for detection of Philadelphia chromosome in CML are required. But most important thing to be done before all these is proper physical examination which gives clue what investigations are needed for a particular patient.
