I have duchenne muscular dystrophy and have had constipation since 9 days but with soft liquid stools passing?

I have duchenne muscular dystrophy and have had constipation since 9 days but with soft liquid stools passing although I can feel a hard bit further back that is not coming out. I had a similar problem three weeks ago and was admitted to hospital as my blood test results showed that my potassium levels were low below 2.0 so they put me on continous potassium iv drip and 24hrs later I managed to pass out the hard stool that was feeling further back in my bottom which is what I am feeling now again. after 36hrs of potassium iv my level reached 5.3 and I cleared my bowels and went home. I went to hospital again on monday and blood test showed potassium level at 3.4 although they said I should try fybogel because I have been taking higher doses of senna, micro enemas and movicol but I have only passed some soft and liquid stools although I can still feel a hard bit further up my colon but the dr. sent me home. I am really worried about what could happen to me and if this is dangerous

You know your body better than anyone so if you are concerned get a second opinion.

Are you in the UK? - If so there is the NHS Health line that you can ring which has nurses available on the phone lines who may be able to advise you further. Their phone number is 0845 4647 and is open 24 hours a day.

If not do you have walk in centres where you live?

Failing that, I would go straight back to the doctors or if you're in serious discomfort, to you local hospitals Accident and Emergency department.

Good luck to you though as there's nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable and in pain - and also worrying that there's something more going on.

Do go and put your mind at ease.

Take care

you are having fecal over flow ,its when a constipated stool blocks the stools that are trying to pass but are unable to so you end up with fecal overflow have the doctors mentioned a phosphate enema also magnesium hydroxide ?if you don't pass a stool usually after 4 days of it being in your Bowell you will need some sort of intervention of Bowell care if senna , micro enemas don't work then a phosphate enema should do the trick and regular magnesium hydroxide . not having your Bowell's open can be dangerous in extreme cases you can pertherate your Bowell if you are worried you need to speak to your GP

go back to the er ASAP!
