Government support RE: Muscular Dystrophy?

Does the UK government provide any support (either financial or otherwise) for sufferers of Muscular Dystrophy or for the families of sufferers?
If yes is there any webpages that cite references to support this?

G'day Student 12345,

Thank you for your question.

People with muscular dystrophy would be entitled to disability support. These include disability living allowance, attendance allowance and incapacity benefit. For children there is also disability living allowance for kids who require additional help. There are also disabled facilities grants available from a local council. You can also get a discount on council tax.

Guide to financial support

In 2004, the UK Government provided 拢1.6 million in funding towards muscular dystrophy research. This will fund a molecular patch to fix the genetic mutation that causes Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is hoping for funding of 拢20 million towards muscular dystrophy research. We have a real chance to develop cures and treatments to keep people with muscular dystrophy alive and leading active lives in the community.
